Getting sh*t done, end of procrastination!
Getting sh*t done, end of procrastination!
Now I’ve never really been one for procrastination, although I’m sure that there have been occurrences over the years, I have experienced being so overwhelmed that I feel frozen though. Perhaps some would call this procrastination but I think about it more as feeling lost in the totaling amount of what I have to do. Thankfully, I no longer freeze in the headlights or suffer through immense anxiety when faced with a heavy workload but I’ll never forget what that felt like. Conquering Life taught me to alter my perspective and to see more clearly and positively which helped me learn how to take on these particular situations.
The first thing that helps, which is also something that comes pretty naturally to me, is writing lists. I like to clearly see the tasks itemized with a little square waiting to be ticked off next to it. The second thing is to pick something easily accomplishable to start with, rather than trying to tackle the most difficult thing on your list. I like to start with tasks that help me feel more centered – like tidying my house or kitchen, which help me to feel not only physically tidier but also mentally clear. The importance of picking an easy item first is that it gets you started and can give you a positive boost in the right direction. It reminds you how good it feels to be proactive and getting things done. It’s amazing how quickly you can get something done when you may have been agonizing over it for days.
Nothing combats anxiety better than getting things done and of course, accepting that there isn’t always something to be done but today I’m talking about the things you can do! Here at Conquering Life we believe that everyone has the power to accomplish their goals but sometimes we require a little help or an inner push. That’s why setting out goals that are achievable is so much better than setting yourself to the most daunting task you can find. It’s also important to remember that your life cannot consist of constant work or you may well lose your mind. So take a break when you need one but don’t let it overtake your day.
This weekend I had a long long to-do list and I had to take out my Conquering Life toolbox to make sure I handled it the right way. Some things took longer than expected and others pleasantly surprised me in how easily I accomplished them. It felt so great to have finished that list and it reminded me of how good it feels to be productive. It’s something that has taken a lot of work because I am someone, as you might have guessed, if you’ve read previous entries, that used to worry all the time. I’ve found so much peace from my worrying in being systematically proactive. Hopefully you all had a more entertaining but equally positive weekend, and if not, you know who to call.
